How do Tarot Cards work?

When I first started out as a reader, I worked at a psychic fair. People would walk up to me and ask how Tarot cards work. I would tease that there were tiny gears in among the cards….

Of course, there are no real gears, but cards do what they do for very specific reasons. They help you read the Akashic Record. The Akashic Record is the Record of EVERYTHING that has already happened in the Universe up until this moment. That is a rather large amount of information. We cannot see all of it, but we can research in the Records if we need to. Tarot cards help.

What is the Akashic Record?

Let us look at what the Akashic Record looks like. Do a visualization. Imagine you are sitting in your chair and suddenly you rise from your body up to the ceiling of your room. You look down at yourself and see a path leading backward. You see where you came from before you sat down. You see where you went earlier in the day. You work back down this path and see where you met a friend earlier today. Then you decide to follow your friend’s path and you trace it back to where she was interacting with her teenage son—having a serious argument. “Ah,” you think, “that is why she looked so upset when I saw her!” The Akashic Record has given you information you could not get any other way.

What does that have to do with Tarot cards?

Tarot cards facilitate this process. We cannot always see someone else in the Records, even if they are a client sitting across from us.  But by laying out the Tarot cards and asking them for information, we can find a way down through the Records to the information we seek. To give an example, if a client wants to ask about a problem they are having. I lay out the cards and see the 10 of Wands. I can tell them that they are taking on too much. Maybe it is time to set boundaries and drop some of the things they are doing.

Why (and when) do I want to use a special spread of cards?

Doing a spread of cards helps. We can put each card in a category and give out more specific answers. I like to use the Horoscope spread, even though I do not like Astrology, because it covers almost all the bases in a person’s life. If a client is asking about their career, we can look for their ambitions (10th house) their current job (6th house) and even (I find) what the company is thinking. The client wants a raise? The 6th house (of coworkers and work) has 3 of pentacles, they think they are doing a good job. However, the card for the company is 10 of wands, they are thinking they are overstaffed, and layoffs are being considered. The conclusion is that this may not be a good time to ask for a raise.

As I do the reading, I am free associating off the pictures and details of the cards. I am not looking directly at the Akashic Record, but that is where the information is that I am finding. As I have mentioned in the past, you can look up the Akashic Record to the future. I do not recommend it. Things we see in the future look to be worse because we are not there yet to make them better. Armed with information from the past, we can work on making better choices and make the future a better place. Opportunities are out there; we just need to look for them.

Look back to look forward

George Santayana said, “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” The Akashic Record is the past. Read that great book, research that huge database, and see what you want to do differently in the future. The changes you make will make your life better. Do not dwell on the past, you cannot change it. All you can change is your future. When I read Tarot Cards, I read the past but look for current opportunities to make my clients’ life better in the future. It will be better eventually, just keep working at it.

Ending the old Year

My first inclination was writing a blog entry about starting new things. An aces entry. But I think this year we need to start with what we are done with in the old year before we begin again. So instead of Aces, I will discuss 10s. 10s in Tarot are endings. Some are happy, 10… Continue Reading

Trust the artist

I am in the process of having some new tunics made to go with my costume. Julia (Needlman www.julianeedlman.com) is making them with the help of a very good local fabric artist named Jennifer Smith. This last week, they perfected the basic pattern and showed me some design elements they will be using to make… Continue Reading

Eating a Frog

Many years ago, when I was still working as a Librarian, someone had pasted a funny bookmark on their locker. It showed a photo of a frog and said: “Eat a live frog first thing in the morning and nothing worse can happen to you all day.” I loved that bookmark! I thought about it… Continue Reading
