Actions speak louder than words

When someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time. — Maya Angelou

A person’s actions will tell you everything you need to know about them, pay attention.” –Joe Mehl

Actions speak, words mumble

I have talked to a lot of people over the years about their men and romance. I have learned one thing in this modern world of long-distance relationships. You do not know someone until you meet them in person. You cannot tell who someone is like until you see their actions with your own eyes.

I am not talking about do they hold the door open for you. Or help you in or out of a car. I am talking about do they talk nicely to the waitstaff at the restaurant? Do they get mad over little or nothing? What are they like right now? He may treat you well but if he treats others badly, eventually he will do the same to you. How is he at home? Is he slovenly or neat? How does he talk of his family? Or friends? Do not let love blind you, look closing at his actions.

Talk about the present you, not the future you

When I read for men, I tell them not to brag about what they are going to do in the future, about what their aspirations are. Instead, tell women what they are doing NOW. Women fall in love with their ears and when they realize that their love had great ideas about the future, but now they are not doing so much, they get angry. But the only one they should be angry with is really themselves for falling for the dream and not the reality.

No guarantees

There is never a guarantee about romance. He may start by being lovely and change over time. He may not. I tell people you WILL get your heart broke sometimes. If you put your heart out there, it will happen. The thing is you do not die of a broken heart. You keep going. It will get better. You have learned some signs of trouble to watch for later. Do not stay and try to change someone else, you cannot do it. Just notice what is NOT working and move on.
